Gunnar Örn Gunnarsson (1946-2008) was a self-taught painter who rose to prominence among artists of his generation and attracted attention in wider circles. He represented Iceland at the Venice Biennale in 1988, the oldest and most prestigious international art exhibition in the world, and held numerous private exhibitions both in Iceland and abroad as well as participating in various collective exhibitions. His works are owned by public institutes and galleries at home and overseas, e.g., The Modern Art Museum in Stockholm, The Seibu Museum in Tokyo and the renowned Guggenheim Museum in New York.
