Elías B. Halldórsson (1930-2006) was born and raised in Borgarfjörður eystri (in the Eastfjords of Iceland). He studied at The Icelandic College of Arts and Crafts 1954-1957 and then went for further education at The Art Academy of Stuttgart in 1959. After completing one term of study he moved over to Copenhagen and enrolled at The Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts in 1961. His first private exhibition was held at the National Museum of Iceland in 1961 but during his career he held over fifty private exhibitions and participated in various collective exhibitions as well. Elías worked simultaneously on painting and graphics and illustrated many books. He was the honorary artist of Kópavogur town in 1994.
